ST. FRANCIS COUNTY, Ark.- Officials are searching for a man believed to be impersonating an officer and pulling women over near Forrest City.
According to records, there have been two separate instances where a man appeared to impersonate an officer.
The first instance occurred on Sunday around 8 p.m. Police say a female driver was stopped at the Exxon on East Broadway in Forrest City by the suspect who was driving an older white Dodge Charger, believed to be a 2006-2010 model, with blue lights in the grill.
The witness described the suspect as a Hispanic male and who was wearing an olive green shirt with “ST FRANCIS COUNTY UNDERCOVER OFFICER” written in white letters on the chest.
After pulling her over the suspect told the victim that he wanted her to be safe because someone was stopping females.
The second instance took place on Wednesday around 3 p.m.
Authorities say a young female driver was stopped on AR Highway 1 near the Hwy 1 Bypass just South of Forrest City.
Police say that the suspect told the victim that she stopped for running a stop sign although she hadn't passed through any stop signs during her drive.
The suspect gained the victims information and told her that there was a warrant for her arrest. He then went back to his car and came back and told her that he got the warrant taken care of for her.
The description of the suspect in the second instance is described as a white male with graying hair and was wearing blue uniform pants and a grey t-shirt with ST FRANCIS COUNTY OFFICER on the chest.
The St Francis County Sheriff’s Department is asking any individual with information on the possible identity of the suspect to please call 870-633-2611.
Police are also asking that if anyone is being stopped in the area by any unmarked vehicle to call 9-1-1 to verify it is an officer making the stop and also record the stop using a cell phone.
