Suspect Stole Checks from Couple's Home; Caught on Bank Surveillance

SEARCY, Ark.- The White County Sheriff's Office is asking for your help to find a thief who broke into a couple's home while they were on vacation.

Mike and Brenda Wheeler have lived in their rural White county home for the past 14 years.  They say they've never felt unsafe until a week and a half ago, when they came home from a short trip to Missouri to discover their house had been broken into.

"When I opened the door I just kind of felt funny in the house," says Mike Wheeler.  "Then as I come around the corner I noticed the curtain on the back door was kind of messed up."

They quickly realized they'd been robbed.  In total more than $7000 worth of property was stolen from their home, including jewelry, electronics and even a gun.

"Didn't sleep good that night," says Wheeler.

Among the items taken were personal checks that led deputies to surveillance video from a local bank.

"The video shows this suspect walk into a local bank and walk right up in front of the camera and cash these forged checks," says Sgt. Heather King with the White County Sheriff's Office.

The Wheelers have seen the video.  They don't know the suspect but are hoping the video could lead to justice.

"You know you do the crime, you need to do the time," says Wheeler.  "This was something that was violated and people need to answer for this."

WCSO says they've gotten several calls and tips but haven't made an arrest yet.  If you have any information give them a call.
