Teen Girl Shot in Little Rock

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - A 16-year-old girl is recovering from a gunshot wound following a Wednesday incident on the city's southwest side.

The Little Rock Police Department (LRPD) says it happened shortly before noon as she rode in a vehicle in the area of Mabelvale Cutoff and Warren Road.

According to the police report that was released Wednesday evening, a man walked into traffic and stopped, causing the driver to swerve to avoid hitting him. He reportedly fired at the vehicle, wounding the girl, who was in the back seat with another person.

The driver then took her to CHI St. Vincent where police say doctors told them her lower back injuries were not life-threatening. 

The report says the suspect was wearing a black hoodie, gray sweatpants and boots with fur.

The Little Rock Police Department (LRPD) says the victim was being treated at CHI St. Vincent on Wednesday afternoon.

LRPD investigators were working to find the crime scene where the shooting happened as well as when it happened.

There's no further word on the teen's condition.
