HOT SPRINGS, Ark. - An arrest has been made in an April 6 homicide.
The Hot Springs Police Department (HSPD) says Demetrius Perry (photo below), 20, is jailed on a charge of Murder - 2nd Degree in the shooting death of Charles David Hill, 32. Both men are from Hot Springs.
A news release issued Wednesday by the HSPD says Hill suffered a single gunshot wound to his abdomen and was found lying in the 300 block of Garens Street. He died after being taken by ambulance to St. Vincent hospital in Hot Springs.
After Hill was found, the HSPD says it was notified about a person with a gunshot wound who had arrived at Baptist Medical Center in Malvern. HSPD detectives went to the Malvern hospital to talk with Perry, who was being treated for a gunshot wound to his right arm.
During the investigation, it was learned that Perry and Hill had been involved in an altercation, when Perry fired one shot from a handgun. Police say the bullet struck Perry in his own arm, went out his arm and struck Hill in the abdomen.
Perry was arrested on Tuesday and is being held without bond at the Garland County Detention Center.
HOT SPRINGS, Ark. - A local man has been identified as the victim in a Wednesday night homicide.
The Hot Springs Police Department (HSPD) says Charles David Hill, 32, was found with a single gunshot wound outside a home on Garens Street around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday and died after being taken to the hospital by ambulance.
Police say Demetrius Perry, 20, suffered a gunshot wound around the same time and it's believed the two incidents are linked.
The HSPD says Perry and Hill are believed to have been together in the area of Garens Street when the shooting incident occurred. Police do not believe any other individuals were involved.
Before being called to the address on Garens St., the HSPD says officers had been called at 10:15 p.m. to a single vehicle accident in the 600 block of Higdon Ferry Road. They found the vehicle unoccupied, a large amount of blood in and around it, noted that the driver suffered injuries not consistent with the accident and had left the scene. Police say a gun and a spent shell casing were found inside the vehicle, along with suspected marijuana.
The HSPD later identified Perry as the driver of the vehicle involved in the accident on Hidgon Ferry Road. He had been taken to a Malvern hospital from the scene by a relative. Detectives were able to interview Perry before he was transferred to a Little Rock hospital, where he underwent surgery for a gunshot wound to his right arm.
Police are continuing to investigate. Anyone with information is urged to call the Hot Springs Police Department Detective Division at (501) 321-6789.
