Update: Man Killed in West Memphis Officer-Involved Shooting Identified

WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. - The man who officials say brandished a gun at police and was subsequently shot and killed on Saturday has been identified.

The Arkansas State Police (ASP) issued a news release Monday morning naming the man as Olugbalah Ridley, 33, of Indianapolis, Indiana.

The ASP says an investigation of the use of deadly force by police is continuing.

The West Memphis Police Department asked for the ASP's assistance in the investigation of the officer-involved shooting.

WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. -- An officer-involved shooting has left a robbery suspect dead in West Memphis.

The name of the deceased man has not yet been released.

Officers with the West Memphis Police Department responded to a robbery call at an America's Best Value Inn in the 2400 block of East Service Road just after 7 a.m. Saturday.

The man was spotted on the grounds of a nearby apartment complex.

According to Captain Joe Baker, the man refused to drop a gun, and the officer then fired his weapon, striking the man, who died a short time later from his injuries.

Special agents with the Arkansas State Police are investigating.
