Weapons Charges for Teen After LR Homicide

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - The investigation into the city's first homicide of the year has led to the arrest of a teen on charges unrelated to the shooting death.

The Little Rock Police Department (LRPD) says its officers were at the scene of a separate shooting incident Sunday night around 7:30 when officers heard gunshots in the area of 33rd and MLK Drive.

The murder victim was found on 34th Street just west of MLK with a gunshot wound to the upper body. He was later identified as Mashon Jackson, 20.

In a news release issued Monday morning, the LRPD said officers were in the area of 28th and Bishop when they heard gunshots from the area just southeast of their location. Officers immediately responded to check the area and found a vehicle that was wrecked at 33rd and MLK. Officers spoke with three females who were in the vehicle and three male subjects who were nearby. All of them were taken into custody and the female subjects were released after being interviewed.

Police say Jerico Mosley, 18, of Little Rock, came to the homicide office where he gave a statement. He was charged with two counts of Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm from a Vehicle and taken to jail.

A second man, identified as Michael Brown, 41, was charged on warrants from the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office and also taken to jail.

The LRPD says that after being interviewed, the other subjects were released pending a file review by the prosecuting attorney’s office.

The incident report notes that while officers were checking the area for evidence, they saw that a home at 1224 W. 31st St. and another at 3101 Pulaski had multiple bullet strikes.is mid to late 20s.
