A shouting match escalated into gunfire Saturday night, ending with the murder of a 16-year-old boy. His suspected killer is in jail. North Little Rock police arrested a 20-year-old man in connection with the shooting death. It wasn't too hard for authorities to apprehend the suspect.

Darren Davis is in jail with no bond. Officers say after a deadly shooting in North Little Rock Saturday, he surrendered to officers at the detectives division. Community activists say it should have never gotten this far.

A Washington Avenue home was the scene of a deadly shooting just before 6:30 Saturday evening.

"Just upsets me knowing another life has been taken, senseless," said Rev. Benny Johnson of Stop the Violence.

Police say two groups of people got into a fight outside of the home. Investigators say Darren Jamal Davis pulled a gun and shot Xavier Williams. He was rushed to Children's Hospital. He died after surgery.

"The person hasn't even lived out his life, haven't lived out half of his life," Johnson said.

The shooting happened while Johnson is holding youth revivals to steer people away from crime.

"Misunderstandings. Persons getting into an argument, it doesn't take much for a person to kill somebody,” he notices.

As of Sunday evening over 200 people had joined a Facebook group in Williams' memory. His friends tell us he's also known as “PJ.”

"We can help put an end to this madness going on,” Johnson says.

And with summer approaching, "get the kids involved in something constructive. The old saying ‘an idle mind is a devil's workshop.’ If a kid doesn't have anything to do, they might get to hanging out and they will hang out with the wrong persons,” Johnson said.

Seventeen-year-old Jarvis Washington says he's known Williams for several years. He said he heard the gunshots ring out Saturday night. When he realized it was his friend, he said, "They didn't have to shoot him like that."

Darren Jamal Davis is charged with one count of first degree murder and four counts of aggravated assault. This is the 4th homicide in North Little Rock this year. Last year, North Little Rock had 9 homicides.

Well first off im Xavier Williams sister Alexis Williams! Darren Jamal Davies is no longer in custody..he got out dat following Monday on a 25,000 dollar bond and his mother paid cash! In the North Little Rock Criminal Court they were treating Darren Jamal Davies and his family like they were the victims! but we are the victims...He took my big brother from his little sisters me(14) and a 11 yr old sister and a 20 month old brother! And Our parents and the rest of the family! I feel that he shouldnt be able to walk the streets or continue to have freedom and be able to experience things in such kind because he took my brother's life and now he wont be able to continue doing things every other typical teen is doing!!! His mother have the chance of watching her son continue to grow up and have kids and get a job and other things in that nature but our parents dont!! The system is SOOOO messed up because how can you allow someone that shot a inncent young teenager in the back that was trying to get out of the way continue to walk the streets??? And plus 1901 E Washington Ave. was a drug house and Whore house...The hang out spot for boys like him(Darren)...And plus channel 4,7,11,16, the detective's nor the journalist's for the Newspaper Articles tried to contact Our family!, But i guess they look at it like "HEY HE WAS JUST ANOTHER BLACK TEENAGER DEAD!!!"...They tried to say he was a gang banger and tried to make it seem like he was a bad person but he wasnt none of that!! My brother didnt have a criminal record of no such thing!!! If you call dancing a crime then something is wrong because all he liked to do was dance and be around his family!! But We pray to the lord that justice will be served!!! Its all in his hands now!....and him getting fired isn't an excuse for him killing my brother...and when he say it was an accident.i think not.If thats the case why did you fire 6-7 times? And he is grown he know what he is doing he is not 11 or 12! I am 14 and know better!

I WAS DARREN DAVIS' EMPLOYER 5 MONTHS AGO. HE WAS A GOOD KID TRYIN TO TAKE CARE OF HIS HOME AND GIRLFRIEND. HE WAS VERY FAMILIAR WITH THE STREET LIFE BUT WAS TRULY TRYING HIS BEST TO DO THE RIGHT THING. OUR BOSS WAS NOT FAIR TO HIM AND HE LOSTN HISJOB. I DID EVERYTHING IN MY POWER TO KEEP HIM THERE BECAUSE I DIDNT WANT TO SEE HIM LOSE TO THE STREETS. I THINK THAT IT IS OUR BOSS' FAULT THAT HE IS IN THIS PREDICAMENT BECAUSE SHE REFUSED TO TREAT HIM AS THE HARD WORKING ADULT THAT HE WAS STRIVING TO BE. THIS LEAS BACK TO THE FACT THAT BOSSES NEED TO TRAINED ON HOW TO BE IN AUTHORITY. TOO MANY BOSSES THESE DAYS, WHERE THEIR TITLE ON THEIR SLEEVE. THEY BRING THEIR PERSONAL LIFE TO WORK AND LASH OUT ON THEIR EMPLOYEES. AND ITS NOT FAIR. THIS VERY SITUATION HAS LANDED A TALENT, INTELLIGENT, HARD-WORKING YOUNG IN JAIL. POSSIBLY, FOR THE REST OF HIS LIFE.
