PULASKI COUNTY, AR – Investigators are referring to the Prosecuting Attorney an incident that left a 19 year old dead, after apparently drowning. It happened just before 1:00am Saturday morning.

The victim is identified as 19 year old Cody Edward Smalling, of North Little Rock. Reports from the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office say it happened at the Jeffery Stone Quarries, near North Little Rock.

The Pulaski Sheriff’s Office report states Zackary Johnston told them he and some friends were at the location to swim and just hang out. Two members of the group jumped from the cliff and thought Smalling was jumping with them but he didn’t. Johnston told investigators 19 year old Adam Lawrence of Maumelle asked Smalling why he had not jumped, then pushed him from the cliff.

Smalling hit the water and never resurfaced. Divers found the 19 year old’s body just before 4:30am Saturday. The Sheriff’s Office report says everyone there were issued citations for criminal trespassing and released at the scene. The matter is being referred to the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for further review to determine whether other charges are warranted.

wreckless behavior...I'm sure the kid didn't do it to be mean. It's said and accidents happen, I hope no one is criminally charged.

It is a sad story. Pushing and jumping are two different things. Jumping gives you a better chance at clearing the cliff. Being pushed, not so much. May have hit the cliff on the way down after being pushed, broke something, or hit his head; guess the autopsy will let us know.

There was a reason he didn't jump and he should not have been pushed off. I am sure the one that pushed is sorry. If that is where I think it is then I would not have dreamed of pushing someone.

My heart goes out to the family if this young man, i pray that the young man that push him off does't blame himself too much.We all know he wasn't trying to harm his friend.
