VAN BUREN, Ark. (AP) — A man arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a woman at a high school football field in Van Buren has made an initial court appearance.

Ronald Cash appeared Monday in Crawford County Circuit Court, where Judge Gary Cottrell set his bond at $1 million. Prosecutors haven't formally charged Cash.

Police arrested him on Sunday in the death of 40-year-old Tammie Schlude. Officers responding to a report of shots fired about 12:30 a.m. found Schlude in the parking lot of Blakemore Field.

Police say Cash fled from the scene of the shooting and went to his parents' home in Fort Smith, where he was arrested.

The Crawford County Public Defender's office was appointed to represent Cash. An attorney from the office didn't immediately return a message seeking comment.

I agree attempted murder is just as bad as murder. If you failed in your attemped to murder someone, tooooo bad! You made the effort to kill them. And you should pay for trying the same as if you had killed them. Your intent was the same.I am for the death penalty but don't have enough faith that we always have the guilty person behind bars.I have seen too many wittnesses lie, too many officers plant things, too many people given deals to turn on another person. Not that it happens that often but to kill one inosent person is one too many. And the fact that a person has a public defender is a major strike aganist them from the start.

the way the death penalty has been handled in the past is the reason it is being handled so poorly now. killing innocent people is not justice but if a person is guilty beyond a reasonable doubt i think the sentence should be carried out within a year tops! then we would have more room. i also think attepmted murder should carry the death penalty. you cant spare a persons life because the victim was blessed to have a good doctor do the operation. you tried to kill them you should get the needle. plus most people who survive neveer have nromal lives again.

If they havent charged him, what did he go to arraignment for and what his bond set for? I'm saying this due to the fact that just recently someone got out of jail because of a paperwork screw up and now two people are dead. If this guy is found guilty, they should give him the death penalty, but we all know that will never be carried out. So, why is it even an option for sentencing? Our state and justice system are cowards that do not deliver justice to anyone but the criminals.
