Two separate car crashes take the lives of two Arkansas children.

In Little Rock, authorities say five-year-old Marice Winston died when his father's truck hit a guard rail. Police say the boy was not properly buckled in a car seat. Then in another unrelated crash, a one-year-old girl from El Dorado died in Spearsville, Louisiana. Police say she was not in a car seat either.

Alison Rose is an injury prevention specialist at Arkansas Children's Hospital. She says although car seats are not 100-percent guaranteed to prevent death or injury, they significantly reduce the risk.

"It's really important for parents, grandparents, caregivers to make sure every child safety seat is installed correctly everytime," raid Rose.
