PARTHENON, Ark. (AP) — Newton County authorities have arrested two people in Parthenon who allegedly had 43 pounds of marijuana and numerous firearms.

Deputies on Saturday arrested 61-year-old Tommy Bonds and 60-year-old Peggy Bonds after serving a search warrant at their home.

Sheriff Keith Slape says the search turned up 43 pounds of processed marijuana, 21 marijuana plants, 30 guns and nearly $15,000 in cash.

The Harrison Daily Times reports the suspects were released Monday after posting $100,000 bond each.

The wife's father used to sell and buy drugs from the county sherriff and police chief in Hampton many, many years ago. Like the old saying goes - It's not what you know, it's who you know! No telling how much money these two LEO's made dealing drugs, or who their customer base was. Also, no telling how many people they locked up for doing what they were doing.

What a shame and why were they not tipped off. I know a person who supplies a lot in Lonoke County and he always gets heads up! Will this ever end. People would be shocked if they only knew all the people who come to see him. Oh and it is people in the upper percent.

I'm with all of you. Just wondering though; how much will disappear from the evidence room for personal use! LOL

Is 30 weapons illegal? If so someone needs to let Americans know. I have been handed down weapons from my great grand father to my dad handed his down to me, and I will hand all of them down as well. As far as marijuana? Our government has way more problems than this. As a matter of fact, I believe we could turn the national dept around with the sales and taxing of marijuana. Prohibition was proven not to work as well.

Right jodashe, people that want it are gonna get it. Why not support local growers that don't kill innocent people like the Mexican cartels do? And medical marijuana is a no-brainer. If a doctor says a natural herb will help a person's medical condition, why force them to have to take synthetic chemical compounds with nasty side-effects?

These two forgot to pay off the Sheriff is why they got arrested. At least that's the way it used to work in Newton and Madison Counties. When I was in college in Fayetteville 30 years ago some of the best pot in the country came from Newton County. Willie Nelson said that's where his came from back then. Don Tyson and Bill Clinton allegedly got their's there too. Economically speaking, legalization would be the best thing that ever happened to Arkansas. Possession of firearms is constitutionally protected. Whatever else you have, the guns should not be an issue. Everybody in Arkansas has guns.

I keep trying to tell you there is a grow system in probably 1 in 5 hundred homes right now. Stop fighting it. Make it legal. Use the money wasted on investigating, arresting, prosecuting, prisons, and follow up parole, probation,Rehabs, and other things. Wipe out the national debt, and pay back the SS department the second largest debt this country owes. The government took all the built up SS money and whine it's not working. The only thing I see is the government can't spend it on other things quick enough. These fools must have been selling it. The crop with the best potential for turning our situation around is being wasted and miss used.
