Before you head out to do some Christmas shopping for your kids you might want to know that a California based advocacy group found six toys with high levels of lead. A new federal law limits the lead content in children's products to just 300 parts per million; these items have at least twice that.
A recent product testing by the
Center for Environmental Health of 250 children's items turned up toys with more than the federal limit of 300 parts per million of lead.
That list includes these items: - Kids Poncho sold by WalMart with 677 ppm,
- Reversible Croco Belt Style 1139915TG sold by Target with 4,270 ppm,
- Dora the Explorer Activity Tote sold by TJMaxx with 2,348 ppm,
- Paula Fuschia Open-Toed Shoes sold by Sears with 3,957 ppm,
- Disney Fairies Silvermist's Water Lily Necklace sold by Walgreens with 22,000 ppm
- Barbie Bike Flair Accessory Kit sold by Tuesday Morning with 6,196 ppm
At Tuesday Morning in Little Rock we were allowed to purchase a Barbie Flair Accessory Kit. The manager says she got the list of toxic toys just ten minutes before we bought the item and got so busy she didn't have time to pull it off the shelf but she did so immediately.
Jennifer Freeman the owner of "Toy Up" in Little Rock says because her business is small its very unlikely toys with excessive amounts of lead make it to her shelves. They check all the compliance sheets.
