AL hostage standoff ends, abducted child safe, kidnapper dead

A six-day standoff between a military veteran who police say kidnapped a 5-year-old ended Monday when police found the man dead in his bunker, according to CNN.

Police say the child, who suffers from Asperger’s syndrome and ADD, appeared to be ok.

According to reports, Jimmy Lee Dykes boarded a bus in Dale County and tried to kidnap two children. In the process, Dykes shot and killed the bus driver, Charles Albert Poland, Jr. Dykes then took the a child to a bunker 4-feet under ground on his property where he stayed for six days.
