Accreditation Evaluation for North Little Rock Police Department

Public comments sought on Tuesday, July 16 at 5:30 p.m. at the NLR Chamber of Commerce on Main Street.
NORTH LITTLE ROCK, AR - An accreditation assessment team set to evaluate the North Little Rock Police Department (NLRPD) next week wants to hear from the public.

A team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), arrives Sunday to examine all aspects of the NLRPD’s policy and procedures, management, operations, and support services.

Interim Chief Mike Davis says verification by the team that the NLRPD meets the commission’s state of the art standards is part of a voluntary process to gain accreditation—a highly prized recognition of public safety professional excellence.

As part of the on-site assessment, agency personnel and members of the community are invited to offer comments at a public information session on Tuesday (July 16) at 5:30 p.m. The session will be held at the North Little Rock Chamber of Commerce located at 100 Main Street.

Agency employees and the public are also invited to offer comments to the assessment team via telephone by calling (501) 812-2518 on Tuesday between the hours of 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. Telephone comments as well as appearances at the public information session are limited to 10 minutes and must be addressed to the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA Standards. A copy of the standards is available at the North Little Rock Police Department Administration building located at 2525 Main Street. The local contact is Lt. Thomas Latina, who may be reached at (501) 771-7186.

Lt. Latina says once the CALEA Assessors complete their review of the North Little Rock Police Department, they report back to the full commission, which will then decide if the agency is to be granted accredited status.

Accreditation is for three years, during which the agency must submit annual reports attesting continued compliance with those standards under which it was initially accredited.
