WHITE HALL, AR - A group of people in White Hall are learning what to do and how to protect themselves in an active shooter situation. That is what Last Resort Firearms calls a mass murderer at a school, mall, or church.

The training presentation explains how to keep from becoming a victim, using instances like Virginia Tech, Columbine, Aurora, CO, and Newtown, CT as examples.

Ed Monk is the co-founder of Last Resort Firearms and says an active shooter is out to kill as many people as possible. "What it boils down to is math and time. Once one of these shooters starts, someone is going to get shot every 8-10 seconds."

The goal of the training presentation is to come up with a plan and be part of the solution. Monk says, "The quicker we can end them, the more lives you save."

Those who attended the information session say they don't want to be victims. Steve Monk is a teacher and pastor and says, "I think we just fall into the trap of thinking it’s not going to happen to me. Everywhere a shooter has struck, that's been the mentality, and we've got to shake that off because it can happen to anyone."

Brenda Haynes is the Superintendent of the Sheridan School District and says, "It's just a topic that's been on everyone's minds. We know we don't have all the answers and we're always anxious for something we can do to improve the safety of our students."

While these mass shootings can rarely be prevented, they can be reduced with a more informed and educated public. Steve Monk says, “We're defenseless and a predator knows what he's going to do. Any tip we can get that can give us an edge is what I'm here for."

Whether that's to run, hide or fight back. Haynes says, "We can make a plan that's workable for us."

Ed Monk has been doing active shooter presentations for years and unfortunately, says he'll have to keep doing them. Monk believes it's just a matter of time before there is another mass shooting.

Active shooter presentations are open to the public, free of charge, and are based on popular demand.

Gun Control is hitting where you aim. If prosecuting attorneys did their jobs and if judges did their jobs and if laws were more strict and sentencing was carried out it may be a deterrent to commit a crime. We may have more guns and more crimes committed with guns but the fact still remains if we hang the bastards when they kill the rest of them will get the hint. Do as foreign countries and stop dragging out the appeals and letting them sit in prison for 50 years before they are executed. The person that did the killing in Newtown was not the registered owner of the guns, they were his moms. He was mental and the guns should have been in a safe locked up. But as we all know, if you want a gun all you have to do is pick up the paper, call the number and have the money to get it or just get one off the street that has been stolen from and honest law abiding citizen. No private seller in the classifieds is going to be able to pick up the phone, call the FBI and get a background check done.

Brenda Haynes actually said that she doesn't have all the answers? Really? I never thought I'd hear those words from her lips.....ever.

Fact that can be back up by info on the net. Countries with the most guns have the highest rates of violent crime. But if I have one I'll keep it.

If our justice system had a set and would make criminals pay for their crimes, this crap would decrease some. Gun control is not the answer, criminal control is.

and if you want to stop mass shootings, get rid of "gun free" zones.

just shoot back at the mf'er......I will be carrying a weapon every where I go from now on...I will not fall victim to some nut case who decides to go on a shooting spree. If I can't carry my weapon, I won't be going into that establishment.
