A second animal rescue in as many days.  Friday, volunteers with the Humane Society of Pulaski County rescued nine dogs, four rabbits and a cat from Izard County.

Since there is no humane society in Izard County, volunteers from Pulaski County drove up there to take the animals in after a judge decided the man wasn't allowed to live on his own.

Volunteers took three truckloads of animals into the cool pens cleared for them Friday afternoon, giving the dogs, cat and rabbits fresh food and water.

While the dogs all roamed free, the man kept the rabbits as pets.  They were all in hutches.  He just couldn't take care of them anymore.

It took about thirty days for the court to rule the Izard County man incompetent.  He won't be charged with anything because, "he's a good man who loved his animals, but we all get older and sometimes we don't have family and friends to help us and that was the case with this gentleman," says Kay Simpson.

While their owner's case went through court, volunteers with Adult Protection Services drove an hour and a half every day to take care of them.

Three dogs are missing though.  "We're hoping some of the neighbors have taken them in.  If so, give us a call or give Adult Protection Services a call, we'll arrange to get those down here is need be," says Simpson.

This is similar to what happened Thursday in Hot Spring County.  A woman there had 34 dogs living with her in a trailer.  Other rescue groups helped with that case since Kay Simpson needed these pens Friday.  "We try to help where our help is needed the most, and we had already committed to this case over 30 days ago if it came to the point these animals needed to go, so we're kind of good on our word.  We had to go with this one," she says.

These dogs will go up for adoption.

Simpson has a message for their original owner.  "He's not going to be able to go back there and have the animals, but, you know, if he's out there watching, I want him to know these animals are going to get top care and they're going to get great new homes," she says.

If you'd like to adopt one of the dogs or the cat, they should be available in two to four weeks.

A vet will check them out and they'll be at the humane society.

A rabbit rescue group will pick up the rabbits.
