LOCUST GROVE, Ark. (AP) — Officials say the death of an 83-year-old Independence County man has been ruled accidental.

Independence County Deputy Darin Brewer says Jerry Nanney of Locust Grove was found dead in his front yard on Tuesday afternoon. Brewer tells the Batesville Daily Guard that Nanney was apparently using his lawn mower to pull down a large tree limb that was hanging and about to fall.

Brewer says Nanney was found lying on the ground next to the lawn mower and the tree limb. Brewer says the tree limb apparently struck Nanney on top of his head, killing him.

Coroner Wesley Gay says the death was ruled accidental.
