A dangerous twist on a bank robbery this morning in North Little Rock. The robbers attacked an armored truck guard as he approached the bank. North Little Rock Police and the FBI are looking for the robbers.
North Little Rock Police and the FBI say here recently bank robberies have happened quite a bit but they can't recall a time if ever when someone robbed an armored truck here in Arkansas.
Around 8:15 this morning this armored service truck pulled up to the US Bank near downtown North Little Rock the guard got out to head inside much like usual but things took a different turn.
"The guard was walking toward the bank he was approached by 2 black males one of which was armed, he pointed the gun at this time they've taken an amount of checks and cash that's being undisclosed," says Terry Kuykendall with the North Little Rock Police.
According to witnesses the two men ran across the street and got into a car. North Little Rock police think a green Camaro found here at number one Pershing circle near the old Baptist hospital was the get away car. FBI agents say armored trucks are not usual targets because they're harder to rob. "They're facing an armed guard and they're more than likely gonna face resistance from that person more so than the normal bank personnel," says John Strong with the FBI.
Strong says this situation could have turned out badly because anyone who would rob a truck knowing that the drivers are armed are very dangerous. "We are more alarmed when we have an armored car robbery more so than a bank robbery that shows the individual is more aggressive than your average bank robber and therefore the threat level goes up," says Strong.
North Little Rock police had tracking dogs in the area where they found the car but say they didn't hit on anything they say the rain may have been a problem. Right now they are following up on leads in this case.
