White smoke coming from the Vatican's Sistine Chapel indicates a new Pope has been elected by the papal conclave.

The new pope will likely be revealed in the next few minutes. He will first change into his white papal cassock, pray in the Pauline Chapel, and then emerge on the balcony overlooking St. Peter’s Square.

115 Roman Catholic Cardinals locked themselves in the chapel on Tuesday to begin the secret process of selecting the new pontiff.

There was no clear favorite to replace Pope Benedict XVI, but oddsmakers favored Italian Cardinal Angelo Scola of Milan.

Benedict, who served from 2005 to 2013, stepped down on February 28th. He is the first Pope in 600 years to do so.
