The Benton Police Department (BPD) has released details regarding the pursuit on Interstate 30 that ended with an officer-involved shooting.
BENTON, AR -- The Benton Police Department (BPD) has released details regarding the pursuit on Interstate 30 that ended with an officer-involved shooting.

According to BPD, detectives were conducting a felony narcotics investigation Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 near Gattin Road and Madison Village, when they saw 29-year-old Clifford Jones, who was a suspect in the investigation.

The detectives tried to make a traffic stop, but Jones fled, driving on Gattin Road to Alcoa Road before merging onto Interstate 30 toward Little Rock.

BPD says when they deployed stop sticks in an attempt to safely deflate the tires and take Jones into custody, he began shooting at the officers from inside his vehicle.

Officers returned fire, and Jones careened across the grass median where his vehicle came to rest against the center concrete divider, according to BPD.

Jones was pronounced dead at the scene.

No officers were injured, and BPD says names are not being released due to the ongoing nature of the investigation.
