Benton man arrested for copper thefts

Sheriff's deputies arrested a man they believe has been stealing copper from air conditioners and selling it as scrap.
BENTON, AR - Sheriff's deputies arrested a man they believe has been stealing copper from air conditioners and selling it as scrap.

Monday, deputies pulled over a truck believed to be involved with the theft of two air conditioning units behind the Salem Harvest Foods shopping center on October 17. They say the driver, 37-year-old Randall J. Brown the second, had warrants and that they saw material from air conditioning units in the bed of the truck.

Detectives say that the "Leads On Line" database showed that Brown had been selling air conditioning parts as scrap.

Brown has been charged with theft and more charges are expected.

Authorities believe there are more people involved in area copper thefts and urge residents to be watchful for suspcious activity.
