LITTLE ROCK, AR. – On Saturday, September 29, cyclists from across the region will participate in the Sixth Annual Big Dam Bridge 100 Cycling Tour of Central Arkansas, according to a release. FOX16 will be the Official Weather Station for the event.

Crossing the longest bridge built specifically for cyclists, runners and walkers, the event is expected to draw about 2,500 riders of all ages from 25 states and throughout Arkansas.

The event offers rides from 15-100 miles. The 100 mile tour includes Little Rock, North Little Rock, Maumelle, Mayflower, Conway and Perry County, with volunteers staffing aid stations throughout the course. The start line is on LaHarpe in Little Rock and the finish line is on Main Street in the Argenta District of North Little Rock. There will be various street closures and delays during the day.

The "Finale Fest", which is sponsored by the Argenta Arts Council, will feature food, drink and entertainment for all participants. The restaurants in the area are offering specials that will cater to the riders and their families.

Proceeds will benefit the Big Dam Bridge Foundation, which promotes the use, support and preservation of the Big Dam Bridge for the advancement of health, fitness, cultural and recreational activities in Central Arkansas.

"This year's event is building on the success of past years, and bringing more people to enjoy the beauty of Central Arkansas in the Fall", Event Director Fred Phillips said. "In addition, we will be using the new southwest ramp onto the bridge on the Little Rock side."

Major sponsors of this year's event include Coulson Oil, Garver Engineering, Heart of Arkansas Travel Association and the Little Rock Convention and Visitors Bureau.

On-Site registration and packet pick up will be at the Wyndham Hotel September 27-28, 2012. For registration and information, go to www.bigdambridge100.com.
