LITTLE ROCK, AR - Former lieutenant governor Bill Halter will file paperwork next week to establish a campaign committee as the necessary first administrative step towards a campaign for governor in 2014.
“Over the holidays my family and I talked about the demands a campaign for governor would place on us,” said Halter. “We decided as a family that we are up for the challenge. That’s why next week I will take the first necessary step towards running for governor in 2014.”
This is Halter's second time running for Governor. He first ran in 2006, but switched to and won the Lieutenant Governor's race. He then tried to become a U.S Senator, but lost. Now he says the time is right to try again to win the Governor's seat.
“During my campaign for governor I will put forward my plans and ideas to move Arkansas towards an even brighter future,” said Halter.
Halter made the announcement just two hours after Attorney General Dustin McDaniel said he is dropping out. But Halter maintains, McDaniel's announcement did not influence his actions.
"The decision to announce had already been made. It was just a question of when it would be announced," said Halter.
