LITTLE ROCK, AR – A Searcy County teenager was arrested on first degree murder charges Friday after his neighbor’s body was found in the woods.

The Searcy County Sheriff’s Office says Eddie Covington’s body was recovered in a remote, heavily wooded area near Witt Springs. The case began as a missing person investigation on Tuesday due to a report from a concerned citizen.

Arrested is Chris Smith, 18. Also arrested in connection to this investigation is Smith’s father, Stoney Cox, 47. Cox was arrested on weapons and property crime charges.

Both Smith and Cox will be formally charged on Monday, January 14th.

Even if he didn't kill Eddie, he helped steal everything and i do mean everything the man owned. So at best Chris is a thief.

Eddie was murdered before thanksgiving, and they covered it up till they were caught in January. Does that sound innocent to you?

cleareyes, just remember Eddie was killed in HIS own home, not chris's. why was he there? if he is taking the rap for his dad, then he is doing it by choice. I knew Eddie, I know he wouldn't hurt a kid, and didn't. if chris is innocent then why paint over the blood, and bury him. if he was defending himself(which I know wasn't the case)why didn't he call the police? an innocent person would have, not cover it up.

Fancy58: I was saying Stoney abuses women, children, and elderly. Stoney is the type of person that takes what he wants and doesn't care who he hurts. It is our justice system that failed the victim. Stoney had warrants out for his arrest and I had to put a "do not contact" against him when he found out where I lived. It is sad that the police overlook people like Stoney and how they can roam around hurting people. He is a good manipulator and cries like a baby for people to feel sorry for him. Stoney has been a thief "all" his life, does drugs, and even the women he is with should go to jail for helping him and his son out. I am sadden for your loss of the victim. This would have never happened if the law kept him in prison like he deserves to be.

He knew Eddie had been killed whether he did it or not, and didn't report it. How do I know he knew, because they robbed Eddie and divided it between both houses. One person couldn't have carried some of that stuff alone, it took two.

Personally I could care less. I knew the victim. Seems like everyone is forgetting him. Eddie Covington would never have made a pass at a man, nor would he have harmed anyone unless they harmed him first. What he would have done is be extremely upset if a man made a pass at him. He just wasn't cut from that kind of cloth. It upsets me that people also overlook the fact that he was shot in the back. It was the boys own father who said he shot Eddie, the son didn't deny it. Eddie Covington was a good man, a caring man. I will miss him always! Rest in peace my friend!!!

joyful1: So you think only blacks got their necks stretched by a rope? Our military used it for many years as punishment ( on white men ). Our states used it for executing death row inmates for many years ( on men of all colors ). It was used many times ( without a trial, judge, or jury ) on horse and cattle thieves ( on white men ). The gallows in Tombstone is still standing as a tourist attraction, and Boot Hill is full of white men hung legally as a result of a trial. I could be wrong, but I think Utah still allows hanging ( and firing squads? ) for executing death row inmates. Please, put the card back for another day; after all, we are talking about a white boy here.

Looks like so far this year we are going back. In history to the time when the other race of people committed all the crimes like murder, rape and destroying property but now it's just to themselves. And it shows how far u have come when u are still mentioning hanging as a punishment!!

JustMe: Sounds like daddy needs a short rope and a tall tree! It appears that like father, like son in this case. thanone; Surely you can see those defending him are friends and relatives? The rest of us? If he's guilty, hang him!

I am speaking of Stoney J.L. Cox, Jr. I don't know much about his son.
