Bryant Police investigating teacher for sexual misconduct

The Bryant Police say they are investigating a sexual misconduct allegation that was reported against a Bryant High School teacher.
BRYANT, AR – The Bryant Police say they are investigating a sexual misconduct allegation that was reported against a Bryant High School teacher.

Police say the allegation was made on Dec 1st. They say the victim in the case was 15-years-old at the time of the alleged incident.

From campus to Facebook, rumors are flying and now Bryant police say a Bryant High School teacher is at the center of a sexual misconduct investigation involving a student.

"This is not something you can just run and jump the gun on - jump into charges on," said Sgt. Todd Crowson with Bryant Police. "You've got to make sure that what's being said is really there."

No charges have been filed yet so we aren't releasing the teacher's name or class subject. The district released this statement:

"Due to student and personnel privacy policies, the Bryant School District is legally unable to release any information at this time."

"Parents drop their kids off at school and they expect them to be safe but unfortunately, we live in a society now where stuff like this goes on all the time," said Sgt. Crowson.

Fox16 spoke with the teacher at the center of the investigation over the phone. We were told to talk to the person's attorney. When we called the attorney, he said the teacher is currently suspended with pay.

The last time the Bryant School District had to handle sexual misconduct allegations against a teacher was in 2007 when Assistant Band Director Joseph Bresnahan pleaded guilty to second degree sexual assault charges stemming from an investigation involving a student.

"I was so close to him and it just shook me up real bad," said Toby Cox, a student of Bresnahan's at the time who is currently a Junior at Bryant High.

But right now, it's too early in this investigation to know exactly what happened.

Police say that no arrests have been made.

The Bryant School District tells Fox 16 that they are not legally able to talk about the allegation and the investigation, to include if the teacher in question is working or is suspended.
