A family affected by the weekend tornadoes is now dealing with a break-in at their business. And to make matters worse the thief stole money collected to help sick children.

North Little Rock Police say the break-in happened during the severe weather outbreak over the weekend. They don't believe this was an accident. The thief picked a time when he knew police would likely be very busy.

"Our aunts in that area had some greenhouses damaged and our uncle had his roof torn off and lots of trees through their window," says Amanda Gonia.

A thief broke into the Gonia family business, BJ's Market. North Little Rock police believe the man flipped the breaker box in the greenhouse then kicked in the roll up door to get inside. The crook even tried to avoid the security cameras.

"It's somebody that's been in there many times or went in there and really kind of looked around to see where the security cameras were. He spent time in there really trying to cover his face," says Sergeant Terry Kuykendall.

The man damaged the cash registers trying to pry them open. He did take some rolled up coins from under the register along with a digital camera. Employees later found it hidden under a table in the greenhouse.

While the thief did leave some things behind, he did manage to empty out the can they were using to collect money for the March of Dimes and they say that is what really hurts.

"The thing of taking March of Dimes money that's pretty desperate but yeah, it was pretty devastating," says Gonia.

The Gonia's had to get new register drawers and fix the rollup door. Now they're back to business hoping police soon put the thief out of business.

"He's still out there and needs to be caught for what he's doing," says Amanda.

They're aren't giving details but the folks here at BJ's are making some changes here to keep this sort of thing from happening again.

The thief stole took about a $150.00 from the March of Dimes collection jar. They're still trying to add up the cost of the damages done to the register and the roll up door.

If you have a can identify the man in the surveillance video or have any information on this case call North Little Rock Police.
