Church Destroyed By Severe Weather

BOTKINBURG, AR--Dangerous weather struck the Van Buren County community of Botkinburg Wednesday afternoon, destroying homes and flipping trucks.

We first spoke to Frederick Brown just minutes after his semi-truck landed on its side. He was heading north on Highway 65 when the storm hit.

"You couldn't see [anything]," Brown said, "All of a sudden, I started spinning out of control for a long time, and then.... it just stopped. And then all I could do was pray and ask the Lord to not let me die."

He crawled out to safety near the parking lot of Botkinburg Foursquare Church, the same place where some took cover under an awning, which eventually blew away.

Ester Pass is the church's pastor. He's understandably upset after the structure he helped build fell victim to the storm.

"We built this church about ten years ago," Bass said. "It's just heartbreaking."

Crews describe the scene as a disaster: downed trees and power lines littered the area, and workers on the scene warned it will take some time to make all the necessary repairs. While our crews were interviewing first responders, they were called away, as reports of a person trapped inside their storm-damaged home came over their radio.

Emergency crews will now begin accessing damage -- a process that won't be easy.
