LITTLE ROCK, AR - A critical step in Clinton National Airport's $67 million renovation is now complete. A brand new baggage handling system designed to improve security and passengers experience at the airport.
It is a part of the airport you'll never see, but it's designed to make your time at the airport easier. The new $29 million baggage screening system is now operational.
Clinton National Airport executive director Ronald Mathieu says four airlines are already using the new baggage system, Delta and American will join later.
"It's more efficient for the passenger, the bags are tracked much better than ever before and it's a much much quicker process," Mathieu says.
And soon you won't see TSA employees lugging piles of bags through the ticket lobby anymore.
It's part of a 67-million dollar project that includes the renovation of the ticket lobby. Improvements passengers are ready for.
"I think it will be good, I think it will be nice,” frequent flyer Doug Elkins says. “But I think the most important thing for us that travel through are flights in an out of Little Rock.”
And the problem of missing luggage should go away too.
"If your bag doesn't make it somewhere it won't be because it was in Little Rock. I can tell you that for sure," Mathieu says.
