Clintons Attend Library Dedication Ceremony

LITTLE ROCK, AR -- Bill and Hillary Clinton were in town Monday as a new children's library in has been named after the former Secretary of State.

Hillary Clinton took time to read a book to children during a tour of what will now be called the Hillary Rodham Clinton Children's Library and Learning Center.

With President Clinton watching on, Hillary recalled bringing their daughter Chelsea to the library when speaking about the importance of reading in a child's development.

"If you do not invest in those first five years of life, if we do not choose to help parents understand what they can do to be their child's first teacher, then our schools, despite their best efforts, are not going to be able to do what should be done to give every child a chance to fulfill their god-given potential," she said.

In just under four months, library officials say more than 41,000 people have walked through the doors at the new library located on 10th Street.

During that time they say 12,000 children have enrolled in library programs.
