Conway Wins $25k for Dog Park

Conway's plan to build a new dog park became a reality on Wednesday when the city was named a winner in PetSafe's Bark for Your Park contest.
CONWAY, AR (News Release) -- Conway's plan to build a new dog park became a reality on Wednesday when the city was named a winner in PetSafe's Bark for Your Park contest.

In addition to the $25,000 Conway will receive from the contest, $25,000 in matching funds has been offered from another source, enough to build a dog park at the Don Owen Sports Complex.

"With $25,000 in contest winnings, plus the matching funds, we have the $50,000 needed to build a dog park," said Humane Society of Faulkner County volunteer Judi Standridge, who spearheaded the dog park effort along with a group of dedicated volunteers.

Standridge entered Conway in the online voting contest several months ago. Since that time, Conway dog lovers outvoted some 400 competing cities to emerge as one of 15 finalists in the contest. Today, PetSafe announced Conway won the "large city" category of the contest, earning nearly 104,000 votes.

The Humane Society of Faulkner County will now begin working with the city to plan and construct the new three acre dog park.

"Thousands of people in Conway stepped up to vote in this contest, clearly showing their passion for a dog park," added Standridge. "We are so excited to be able to bring this project to life and give the community a great new place to exercise and socialize with their dogs."

The funds will be used to design and fence the area at the sport complex and will include benches, dog waste stations, lighting and water access.
