Back in January, no one knew who Kris Allen was. Over the many weeks of the competition we began seeing more and more of him and now he is the new American Idol.

Nearly 100 million American Idol votes came in from across the country last night. Hundreds turned out to watch Idol finale and the town seemed to erupt in cheers when Ryan Seacrest announced that Kris is the winner.

Kris didn't intend to become the American Idol. Originally, his brother Daniel wanted to audition and he talked Kris into coming with him. The rest is history.

  • CORRECTION
Based on incorrect information provided to one of our reporters, FOX16 News reported Wednesday night, an extraordinary number of votes came in from Arkansas to American Idol.

AT&T spokesman Ted Wagnon told us today, "AT&T does not divulge or confirm how many votes were cast in any state."

We apologize for the error.

hey vabear61--that IS how you elected your president.Un-informed voters and lemmings that wanted to be accepted by the terrorist loving & woman hating american liberal liars. Take the ignorant votes and nutcase lying liberals out of the last election & we would have a fair true american election! The Democrat party should be ashamed for being hijacked by these nuts. The best thing i did was change my political party to one that is Pro American! After all, we are now expierencing Carters 2nd term. Cowards, PC's & Wimps. Obama is killing people just like George did...so where's the outrage, you blind idiots! Our national safety is in danger from people like you.

Way to go Fox. I applaud your ability to report false news. Next time, check and double check the source before you release ridiculous news. And honestly, I hope Kris didn't get 38 million votes from Arkansas. The reason I say that is I hope the votes were more spread out over the nation so that Kris is known and loved by everyone so he can have a long and healthy career in the music industry.

I am not from Arkansas and I just wanted to drop by to thank you for your excellent reporting *sarcasm*. You shamed your son and your state by reporting that 38 million votes came from your state without concrete evidence. Now, everyone in the world accuses Arkansans of cheating and you took away Kris' credibility. Your station retracted the comment but it is too late. Damage has been done. Great job!

Thank you Fox 16. Your overenthusiastic (and very illogical, therefore shoddy) journalism has lent an unneeded conspiracy theory to what should otherwise be Kris' shining moment. Although you eventually retracted your (unfact-checked?) story, bloggers everywhere are still quoting it as gospel as to why their Lambert didn't win.

Kris sings well. Adam screams well. Both will do well. Kris fans would have been disappointed but not so bitter and hateful if Adam had won. Why are Adam fans such poor losers?

Fox 16 News is saying: "America voted and confirmed what Arkansans already knew". Ridiculous! - ARKANSANS voted so many times they skewed the results horribly for the rest of the country, APPARENTLY ARKANSANS WERE AFRAID KRIS WOULDN'T WIN IF IT DEPENDED ON AAN HONEST MAJORITY. 3 million in population total and a small fanatical segment of this total voted so many times that Arkansas ended up placing 40% of the total votes. We've proved you don't necessarily have to be best to win, if you are from Arkansas.

Kris is an awesome singer! Adam is an awesome singer! It doesn't surprise me that Kris won this and he deserved to for the talent he dispalyed. His song with Keith Urban was spectacular last night! These 2 guys are very different and I happen to like both equally and did not care who took the title, to me they both scored big-time. Actually I think any of the top 4 were worthy, it happens that Kris was most loved by the people of AR, obviously! Arkansans are clannish and will get your back! Kris and Adam both are very talented and I believe one was not better, just very different. Favored by Arkansans and Americans alike or else Danny would have been in it to win. Well, Kris was going to win and I knew it!Wish good luck to them both. Oh, (Dissappointed one's) please don't be so mean, be happy for them both and may you have good karma (like Kris does)! I was so happy when I heard Kris Allen's name called that I screamed for 5 minutes! What a show, the best finale I have EVER seen on Idol! FANTASTIC!

doesn't understand all the negativity about Kris winning. Just because Adam can sing higher doesnt mean it sounds good!! just let Kris enjoy his win...geeze!!

Parker05 - 5/21/2009 10:30 AM
Unfortunatley, the best does not always win. And this was the case this season of American Idol. We don't need to question the success Adam Lambert will have, however, he deserved the win.

vabear61 - 5/21/2009 2:27 AM
I don't get how 21,000,000 people watched the show, but 100,000,000 voted, and 38,000,000 came from Arkansas. Does everybody in Arkansas have bloddy fingers from dialing that much? Take the Arkansas votes out and Adam would have had to won. Thank goodness we do not elect our Presidents this way.
