A lot of cities and towns in Central Arkansas are concerned about flooding.
In Conway they are taking precautions to head the rain off before it gets even worse. They can't keep the rain from falling but they sure can try to keep the water from flooding homes and businesses as you can see some here in downtown Conway have the sandbags out, it's their first line of defense.
This is how they spent the morning in Faulkner county. With what could amount to 7 inches of rain across central Arkansas the potential for flooding is high, especially in low lying areas of downtown Conway.
"We started gathering out equipment last night and loading sandbags moving sandbags to town and going door to door downtown finding out who needed sandbags,” Conway Fire Chief, Bart Castleberry said.
"We have had water outside of or building as high as 24 inches up on the wall, boats floating down the streets cars floating down the street," Jenifer Bradley with Jenifer’s Antiques said.
Because of this Jenifer Bradley isn't taking any chances, she runs an antique store in downtown. "Water it's definitely not goo, just the building itself and things get saturated the floor rugs tend to mildew and mold," Bradley said.
They're worried about flooding in rural areas of Faulkner County as well. County judge Preston Scroggins says his crews are watching the lakes and creeks because if they overflowed we could see major flooding, he encourages folks who are concerned about flooding to go down to the county shop or the Conway fire department to get sandbags.
"I'm sure there's been times if you look back in history the 70's or 1982 but not since I’ve been in public office have I seen conditions this bad," Faulkner County Judge, Preston Scroggins said.
"We just batten down the hatches, get our sandbags and prepare for the worst," Bradley said.
