LITTLE ROCK, AR – Five people lost their lives in separate accidents this weekend. Two of the fatalities were in Crittenden County.

According to Arkansas State Police reports, 47 year old Pierre McReynolds of Memphis died when the southbound bicycle he was riding on Interstate 55, was hit by a southbound Mack truck at the 3 mile marker in West Memphis. The crash happened just before 6:00am, Sunday.

A separate Crittenden County crash that happened at 2:00am, Sunday morning, claimed the life of 28 year old Calvin Jackson of Earle. State police say the victim was southbound on State Highway 149 in Earle when he lost control, left the road, struck a utility pole and his vehicle overturned.

Just before 5:00am, Sunday morning in Lee County, investigators say a dog in the road caused a fatal one-vehicle crash. 66 year old Glenda Watkins of Brinkley was eastbound on Highway 79 when her car hit a dog, causing her to leave the road and the vehicle to rollover. 71 year old Thomas Wilkins of Brinkly was also hurt but the extent of his injuries is not yet available.

A crash in Benton County around 5:00am, Sunday, claimed the life of 64 year old Robert Davis of Bentonville. State police say the victim was northbound on Highway 71 just north of the 188 exit when he left the road and struck a bridge support.

An accident just after 5:00pm, Saturday, just north of Mountain Home, claimed the life of 51 year old David Shoras of Mountain Home. Investigators say it appears the victim was southbound on State Highway 5 when he left the road, hit a driveway, became airborne, struck a fence, hit a parked fifth wheel, overturned and slammed into a utility pole.

k ARYankee, I may be thinking of a different hwy up that way, 49 maybe...I reread the article and not sure if they added more info since I read it the first time or if I just skimmed over it but ya, since there was a mile marker, it was the major part of the hwy.

AM; sorry for your loss. Did you read my last sentence? wp; I find myself agreeing with you most of the time; but the I in I-55 means Interstate; no bikes allowed. I see them on Military Rd here in Jax. You see the methbilly's coming from Lonoke County to Jax, the drunks heading to the liqour stores from Lonoke County, ( and back ), the soccer moms and teens on their cell phones; just about every time I head to town, I almost always see someone drifting to one side or the other; no way I'd ride a bicycle on that road, much less an Interstate highway.

I thought there were quite a few parts of that road that were not controlled access.

Sorry for the loss, But I-55 is MAJOR highway from Chicago to New Orleans. The specific statutes pertaining to bicycles are found in the Arkansas Code of 1987, Annotated, (“A.C.A.”) Title 27, chapters 49 through 111. Cyclists may use any public road, street, or highway in Arkansas with the exception of the freeways and other controlled-access highways.

from what I know, I-55 is not a major highway like I-30, Mr McRenynolds had every right to be riding his bike on that road. I've never seen a safe Mack Truck driver on that road, have almost been hit head-on a few times by those trucks when in my car....They all swerve out of their lane and drive way too fast...AMcReynolds, I'm sorry for the loss of your father.

Life is getting tough today. Not only do you have to watch the self centered selfish crackpot gun owners. Police with guns. Criminals. Dogs. But you have to be real careful driving. Hope all were saved and in heaven before the devil new they were gone. God be with their families in this time of sorrow.
