A shooting in broad daylight sent two men to the hospital. It happened Thursday afternoon at the Quick Stop convenience store on Roosevelt and Arch Street. Police are investigating the motive and looking for the people involved.

Police are calling this a drive-by shooting, but it may not be random. One of the victims was gunned down and another one just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

“All of a sudden we thought we heard what was a tractor trailer rig with its brakes stopping, but then we looked up and guys were scattered around, so we figured out it was bullets," said Billy Todd.

He watched out of the window of his auto business, directly across from where it all happened.

FOX16 asked Todd how many bullets he heard and he said, “About 30, about 30 bullets."

Police say before 1:00 Thursday afternoon, three or four men pulled up to the convenience store in a white Ford and went on a shooting spree.  The shooter was serious. He chased the victim a couple of hundred feet outside. Police placed numerous orange cones around the scene, each representing a separate bullet.

Police believe the shooter may have been after 30-year-old Michael Everhart.

"They continued to shoot at him. He has been struck in the arm. There was another person shot in the head. We believe he possibly could've been an innocent bystander standing in front of the store. He has been shot in the head," Lt. Terry Hastings said.

The innocent bystander, believed to be in his 40's or 50's was rushed to UAMS in serious condition.

People like Todd are growing tired of watching crime where they live and work. "We need a little more attention going on in this neighborhood. They know what’s going on. They know people like that hang out around here so they need to get out and control it more,” he said.

Even though this happened in a high crime area, a store employee said this is the first time there's been a shooting in the 18 years they've been there.
