EF1 tornado confirmed in Clarendon

CLARENDON, AR - "If the debris didn't kill me I probably would've had a massive heart attack because I am scared of tornados," said Denise Davenport, who felt that way before a tornado caused major damage at her video store in Clarendon. She says she left work just five to 10 minutes before the storm hit.

"I haven't even been in bed," she said less then 24 hours later. "I been just walking floors at home just thanking the lord for sparing my life."

Monroe County Emergency Management Coordinator Philip Norman says Davenport's store sustained more damage than any other building in the county. The good news though, is no one has reported a serious injury and all but a few residents have power back.

As for the tornado itself, John Robinson of the National Weather Service calls it an EF1 and says its short track, possibly less than one mile, is somewhat unusual.

"I would've thought, the way it looked on radar, once it got going it would've been on the ground for a longer period," said Robinson. "You know, that's why we come out and look."

Davenport is still looking at tornado remnants too. She says surviving the storm has not eased her fear of severe weather, but at the same time, she doesn't feel lucky to have made it through, she feels something different.

"I feel blessed, not lucky," she explained. "I'm not running on luck. I'm running on faith and grace of God and his blessings."

The National Weather Service plans to survey Jefferson and Grant counties Friday. They do not expect to find another tornado track.
