DE VALLS BLUFF, AR – Arkansas State Police are investigating an incident that reportedly began as an argument but ended with a fatal shooting. The incident happened at a liquor store and the store owner was at least initially being held at the Sheriff’s Office in connection with the shooting.

Bill Sadler with Arkansas State Police tells us a criminal investigation was opened into the DeValls Bluff killing. The results will be referred to the prosecuting attorney for consideration.

Initial statements from the investigation indicate that at approximately 9:30 PM, Friday night, there was an argument outside the Happy Times Liquor Store between Edgar Wilson, 61, the owner of the business, and Dale Metcalf.

Metcalf, 41, was shot and pronounced dead at the scene.

Wilson and witnesses have been questioned; meanwhile agents are awaiting results of an autopsy and analysis of evidence which has been delivered to the State Crime Laboratory.

Wilson was held Friday night at the Prairie County Sheriff’s Department.

@jaydee--If ed was such a "good" person why did he intentionally shoot & kill another man in the back as he was walking away? Turning your back & walking away from an argument means its over, especially when its a person like Dale. He may have done a lot of things that were wrong in his life but he has NEVER killed anybody or been life-threatening. And its people like you with your same way of thinking that has this world in such turmoil. It will NEVER be ethical or justifiable to shoot ANY man with his back turned! When did turning your back to someone become a threat anyway??

I think its bad that a good person like Ed might have to go to jail for doing what the police did not do. GET people like dale off the street and in jail where they belong.

Not a funny situation at all. Whatever happened, no one has the right to just shoot and kill. Now he has to pay for what he has done. Praying that justice is served...

@guzzler--maybe you should stay in your business on your side of the trailer park, that was my family that was senselessly murdered! Yes they had an argument but he had his back turned.......coward shoot in the back. That is my hometown & its highly likely ed was drunk, as usual. This type of crime should not go unpunished!
