Father awareness march

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, AR - Organizers say three hundred or more people joined a Saturday morning Father Awareness March. The intent is to bring attention to what they describe as a plague in America, Father Deficiency.

The march began at 7am near the North Little Rock Police station on Pershing. Marchers spread their message as they trekked to the A.C.T.S. church at the corner of 13th and Franklin in North Little Rock.

Frank H. Stewart, an author who has written a book about the need for more good fathers in the lives of our children says, "There is a great deficiency in our society, the lack of fatherhood in America. We compare this deficiency to a vitamin." Stewart goes on to say,"It is this missing vitamin that causes an increase in our prison population, behavioral issues, teenage pregnancy, school dropouts, sexual promiscuity and of course, more absentee fathers.

Organizers say the intent of this morning's march is raising awareness of this critical national epidemic and helping men become better fathers. A.C.T.S church is dedicating the entire month of June to the cause. They have awareness and mentoring classes to help men become better fathers Tuesday evenings at 7pm, at the A.C.T.S. church, 1423 Ingram Street in Conway and Saturday mornings at 9am at the A.C.T.S. Church 1224 Franklin Street in North Little Rock.
