A fight involving more than 40 students breaks out at Mills High School. When it ended 10 students were arrested, several given citations and three people injured including a Pulaski County deputy.

The fight started and cameras were rolling. After the fight inside the school a family member of a student who was injured came to the school and started beating up another student. The fights prompted many parents to come and get their children from school early.

"The people that drove up apparently had a relative that was injured in the earlier fight and they were concerned about what was going on got a little rambunctious and ran up there instead of talking," says John Rehrauer with the Pulaski County Sheriffs Department.

"There's been fighting here going on look like practically everyday," says Tiffany Virden. Virden, whose son attends Mills High, says it's been nothing like Friday more than forty students got into a brawl inside the school. The fight got so out of hand a Pulaski County Deputy was hit in the face.

"My son he wants to leave the school so I came up here to get him," said Virden. “This shouldn't happened, this is a learning environment, I just need to get my children."

Now that guns were found at Hall and a 10 year old had a gun at Wakefield Elementary; Now that there was a shooting in the park that involved and injured seveal students from JA Fair and Hall; Now that UALR has a had a shooting, what is there to say about the plight of education- from elementary to post-secondary? Has anyone taken the time to analyze the fact that Mills had fights last year and it had three principals for discipline but this year there are only two. Why the cut in administration? It is in an effort to save money. That is right- the almighty dollar is worth more the safety and education of your child. As you point fingers, be informed and analyze the data. Mills has a record of extremely high disciplinary referrals but there was still a reduction in administrative dats. To the students who say Mills is horrible-have you ever shared your concerns with your principal or assistant principals. I have and they responded in an expedient manner. Try calling your Central Office- those people don't even answer the phone. I guess that is due to another budget cut. oh yeah by the way, in the midst of he budget cuts- the Superintendent just got over a $22,000 raise. Hmmm- could we use that in the schools?????? Just a few comments from a person who researches the issue before he speaks- Maybe you can follow suit,

PPL are still saying we're a bad school...maybe if we had some say as for the way things are done at Mills it'd be a better school than it ALREADY IS!!!!! We just have rules forced upon us with no sayso in how we feel. Why have a student council if all they get to do is pla "activities" and not important issues. You wanna call it a riot , thats fine but you know what other place has riots.....prison.....dont make us feel like we're in one

I must say that as a student from Mills University Studies High School, the media TOTALLY blew this whole incident out of proportion. I was there, because I am a student at Mills, and it was merely a fight between about 10-15 students, not 40 and 50. It makes no sense that the media wants to slander our name and exterminate our pride, trying SO desperately to degrade our level of integrity because of a fight that happened between less than 1% of the whole population at Mills. What people fail to realize is that the whole school is NOT fighting, only a group of kids who apparently have no other purpose to come to school other than to fight. So take my advice: The media, the State of Arkansas, and even other schools can maliciously slander our name, but at the end of the day, WE are still the best school in the state. If you don't believe me, look us up in Newsweek, and ask people from other states why they visited Mills High to see a model example of a successful AP program.... d_will

Mills is not a bad school, and the media has COMPLETELY blown the whole incident out of proportion;it was merely a fight between students, that got out of hand, and it wasn't what the media portrayed it to be.I know, because I was there.. I am a student at Mills High School and i GUARANTEE that we are still the best school in the state of Arkansas.Everyone has their good moments and their bad moments, the only difference is that someone was there to record our lowest point; trying to slander our name by portraying us as heathens who have no respect, dignity, or education.(which is TOTALLY false) No matter what they say, I plan on graduating from Mills High, because it is a good school, and the whole school isn't bad; it's only like 50 people who constantly fight and disrupt the learning enviroment. So you can say whatever you want, and you can even pull your children out of our school, but the way that I view the whole situation is that the smaller the classes, the better the learning enviroment, resulting in more one on one time between teachers and students.

SAYSO......u said your daughter goes to Mills which means u have no accurate information of Mrs. Haynes incompetence because she's not and does what she's suppose to do.....but your children not stuck at mills cause if you felt that strongly about it you would've moved them to another school if you felt it jeopardized their safety. Bush is the president of this country but you can't blame him for everything that goes on....same applies to Mrs. Haynes! At least we have a principal who is willing to restore the school's reputation because you probably would've been mad if she quit like Hall's principal...

Everyone has a right to their opinion, but that does not make it right. Mrs. Haynes is a very good leader and the teachers do respect her. I could have left Mills last year and can next year but I enjoy it at the school. The good students far outnumber the inappropriate ones. We have some before school issues to deal with and need to send some students to alternative placements. It will be done now and just because you do not get your way or the result you want, that does not make someone a bad administrator. It actually reminds me of some of the inappropriate students.

My daughters go to Mills and I assure you that it is a school that is out of control. Mrs Haynes is incompetent and is often a big part of the problem. She is not a leader, and she is not a good administrator. She does not have the respect of her staff or the students. The change needs to be made at the top, starting with her. Once you get a principle that the students respect, then you can begin to change the current behavior. This is not a problem that has just developed last week, it is a problem that has been going on for several years and it will continue until you get a different administration in place that the students can and will respect. You can not continue to do the same ole stuff and expect different results. I have had dealings with Mrs. Haynes and am speaking from experience. Start cleaning house with the administration and see if you don't get different results. My kids would love to go to a different school but unfortunately they are stuck with going to Mills, and have to endure the incompetent administration. Once again this is not a new problem it is a problem that has been allowed to get continue for several years. It is time for Mrs. Haynes to take responsibility for her lack of action and her negative blind attitude and step down so we can get a competent leader. That school needs someone that can lead, not someone who likes to point fingers at everyone else, for her short comings.

yes mills is really that bad i go there and hate it, everyone of you that go there no its not a good school. Yes we have good kids here but its not just a few kids that spoil the hole bunch its a great proportion of the kids there that have a problem and act so uncivilized. The authorities arent doing much either because i know many that got in the fight that was back at school the next day that they knew they was in the fight. We have fights 80% of the days at school so dont act like it is a good school because it is not

Talking does little or even no good. The deputy is there often, by the way. It was nothing special. Oh, and Tiffany, what is the point in saying there are fights everyday. I go to Mills, and the are not every day. They are lucky to be every week.

HEY DON'T DO MILLS CAUSE WE ARE VERY INTELLECTUAL. YES THERE ARE SOME UNRULY STUDENTS BUT EVERY SCHOOL HAS THAT, AND EVEN THOUGH THERE SHOULD BE NO FIGHTING, THIS WHOLE STUNT IS FOR CENTRAL OFFICE TO COVER THEIR BUTTS BECAUSE THE MESSED UP AND NOW THE SECRETS OUT. THIS IS NOT THE ONLY SO CALLED "RIOT" THIS YEAR, ITS JUST THE ONLY ONE YA'LL KNOW ABOUT BECAUSE A POLICE OFFICER GOT SCARED AND CALLED FOR BACKUP. IF YOU SCARED OF YOUR CHILD'S SAFETY THEN SEND THEM ELSEWHERE BUT AIN'T NO OTHER SCHOOL IN CENTRAL ARKANSAS THAT OFFERS A FULL AP PROGRAM BECAUSE WE GOT IT LIKE, SO FORGET WHAT YOU THINK YOU KNOW BECAUSE IT'S NOT ACCURATE UNLESS YOU WAS ACTUALLY THERE. NO IT WAS NOT 40-50 FIGHTING, I MEAN IT WASN'T EVEN 20 OF THEM. AND AS A STUDENT AT MILLS, I HAVE TO TELL YOU PARENTS TO STOP BEING SO SENSITIVE. THIS IS LIFE! STOP SHIELDING YOUR CHILD FROM THE OUTSIDE ENVIRONMENT BECAUSE EVEN THOUGH IT SHOULDN'T HAPPEN, IT DOES AND EVERYBODY KNOWS IT SO STOP TRYING TO HIDE IT. AND I'M JUST REALLY HEATED ABOUT CENTRAL OFFICE, I MEAN HOW DARE YOU MAKE IT SEEM LIKE ITS THE STUDENT'S AND ADMINISTRATORS FAULT. MILLS HAS BEEN TRYING TO KEEP THE PERFECT IMAGE THAT THEY'RE THE BEST AND THAT THEY DON'T HAVE PROBLEMS LIKE OTHER SCHOOLS. I KNOW THIS IS KIND OF RUDE TO SAY, BUT ITS GOING TO TAKE SOMEBODY ACTUALLY DYING IN A FIGHT BEFORE EVERYONE GETS THE MESSAGE. BUT MILLS IS NOT ALL BAD AND ITS NOT AS BIG AS I MAY SEEM BECAUSE THE MEDIA LIKES TO USE THEIR WILD IMAGINATIONS AND COME UP WITH STORIES BECAUSE IF YOU NOTICED, EVERY NEWS STATION HAD A DIFFERENT STORY. BUT DON'T BE MAD BECAUSE UNLIKE OTHER SCHOOLS, WE HAVE A REPUTATION ACADEMICALLY AS WELL AS IN THE STREETS. HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH GANGS, JUST FAMILY TAKING UP FOR FAMILY AND YOU OUGHT TO BE LUCKY THAT THEY'RE FIGHTING AT SCHOOL WHERE IT CAN BE STOPPED, RATHER THAN FIGHTING IN THE STREETS WHERE THERE ARE NO RULES AT ALL MASHAWNNA FUDGE MILLS STUDENTS ATHLETE
