LITTLE ROCK, AR – A man who told law enforcement he was trying to break up a fight is behind bars charged with murder. Investigators say the suspect told them he feared for his life.

Edward Charles Lee, of Charlene Lane just outside Little Rock, is in the Pulaski County Detention Center facing a charge of first degree murder. The first Pulaski County Sheriff’s deputy on the scene says 34-year-old Lee told him he heard two men fighting next door and went to break it up.

Lee was armed with a handgun when he says one of the fight participants 22-year-old Antonio Davis, who lived at the Charlene Lane address, started coming towards him.

Lee says he and Davis had a prior history of violence between them that resulted in Lee suffering a broken ankle.

The suspect told the deputy he asked Davis multiple times to stop coming towards him, when he didn’t, Lee fearing for his life, fired four shots hitting the victim in the chest.

This is the fifth homicide for the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office this year. There were a total of 9 in 2011.

shot in the chest 4 times doesn't sound like self defense to me...sounds like he wanted to kill that guy and self defense was just an excuse..

I agree LSSLSM, that guy did not need to intervene. He could have just called the police. When you go looking for a fight, you can't shoot someone and say, "it was self-defense." That's ludacris.

I need to retract my first post and go with itsjustme on this one. Still, prayers to all the families impacted by this tragedy.

I know this family and I want to send my condolences. Venise I know this is rough on you being as though you lost your husband to a shooting and now your son. May God bless you and your family during your time of bereavement.

A person does have a right to defend themselves, but not a right to go looking for trouble. If the guy did hear a fight, he should have called the police. But he decided to "intervene" and it pissed the other guy off, and now we have a murder. He should have just stayed his butt at home.

wmgerman1 - You are correct - the story on this new outlet does not state Lee went inside the home. However, the victim fell dead on their own porch according to another news outlet so am assuming Lee was in the home at one point or at the very least, on the other man's property . . . .

The story said nothing about Lee going INSIDE the home. (I agree with you IF that happened as you said.) But I dont know where you got that Information. The story does not say anything about that at all & all I commented on was what was reported in the news.
