GREENBRIER, AR - Faulkner County fire officials battled a brush fire Saturday that burned 39 acres and destroyed three barns.

The fire burned land just east of Greenbrier off of AR 225.

Firefighters say one home was temporarily threatened and residents were evacuated for a time. The house did catch fire two separate times but fire fighters were able to put it out both times with only minor damage.

Greenbrier Fire Chief Cody Fulmer says the fire was caused by a local land owner cutting hay. The cutting blade hit a rock causing sparks and starting the fire which spread quickly.

Six fire departments responded with a total of 26 fire fighters.

I haven't seen any fireworks for sale outhere in my parts so maybe the sale has been banned?

BUTCH54 I used to give you credit for having a little smarts,but now I wondser,all of us knowes about hay cutting and cows that was an acident,I bet there will be several fireworks fires and some may burn hay fields cause nuts sometimes goes to country roads to set off fireworks.Also I am careful when cutting a dry field ,I have a 330 gal water tank with a pump and someone with me 2 eyes are better than 1.I believe the county judges should ban fireworks sales till the ban is lifted.

How do buildings being burned in a fire caused by a farmer cutting hay have anything to do with fireworks being sold. Idiots come in all sort of walks of life. It's like comparing apples and oranges. Hay has to be cut. Cows feed. What are the odds of this happening. My friends are looking to have to sell their livestock due to to dry weather and no hay. It's sad it happened but it is a life on life situation. How it is dealt with in the end could be the shame.

The fines and other punishment need to be raised when burn bans are in effect. A lot of idiots don't think the bans apply to them when they are burning on their own property. When it gets out they just get a stupid look on their face and like Erkle "Did I do that".

burn bans are like speed limits. they only apply to those who are inclined to observe them. others are above having to abide by them. i agree with bat102, the 4th fireworks season may wreak havoc on the dry-as-dust fields. firefighters beware!

Just wait till all the nuts start poping fireworks,it looks like the the stupid county judges that put the burn ban on would stop the sale of fireworks in their county,I guss they thought people would drive to a county that has no burn ban,after all more than 60% of arkansas has a ban.
