A former Miss Arkansas contestant and music student at Arkansas Tech University was found dead in her off-campus apartment, said police Friday.
Police say her boyfriend said he found her dead in her Russellville apartment Thursday night. The boyfriend has been questioned and released and right now, they have no one in custody. But FOX 16 has learned more from a source close to Dirksmeyer's family, and her boyfriend's family.
Nona Dirksmeyer was "Miss Petit Jean Valley” 2005 competing in the Miss Arkansas pageant. The 19 year old was a music student at Arkansas Tech University. Dirksmeyer and her family are from the nearby town of Dover. Our source tells us that Dirksmeyer's boyfriend had been trying to reach her all day Thursday.
The boyfriend and his mother went to her apartment, where they found her lying on the floor. The family friend tells us, the families have been told that Dirksmeyer was killed by a blow to the back of her head. And those close to the victim are talking about something very disturbing to them. We're told the victim had problems with some guys; guys who they say were possibly stalking her. But in terms of the actual investigation, right now, all police can tell us is that it's on-going. We will continue to follow this developing story.
