Friends, Family Celebrate Life at Funeral for 107-Year-Old Monroe

A church full of friends and family members laid to rest a 107-year-old man killed last weekend during a shootout with police.
PINE BLUFF, AR -- A church full of friends and family members laid to rest a 107-year-old man killed last weekend during a shootout with police.

It was far from a somber occasion, friends and family were on hand Saturday for a celebration of Isadore's life.

"He didn't meet strangers," Pastor Anthony Craig said of Isadore.

Speakers shared memories of Isadore's infectious personality.  He was a man who loved god and always walked around with a smile, they said.

"He was not a negative man," said friend Al Carter Jr.  "He was positive all the time."

Friends say Isadore loved tending to his crops.  On the day of his funeral, we saw new video of Isadore in his garden.

"His garden was the most lush garden you'd ever want to see," Carter said.

Even during the celebration of his life, there were many questions from those in attendance over the circumstances of his death.

"The main frustration is that given the positivity of his life, that he died in such away," Carter said.

Police say Isadore shot at officers multiple times before the SWAT team returned fire and he was killed.

But friends say Isadore was nearly deaf and legally blind.

They believe the 107 year old was scared and confused during a standoff with police that lasted hours.

Many at the funeral say they're eagerly awaiting the findings of a special prosecutor appointed to look into the case.
