LITTLE ROCK, AR-- The Garland County Quorum Court decided to postpone voting on a proposed dog confinement ordinance Monday.

Leaders say they want to discuss the issue more before taking a final vote.

The ordinance would require dog owners to confine their dogs to a leash or inside a fence. If passed, the penalty would be up to a $1000 fine.

The issue passed the public safety committee last week and exempts service and hunting dogs.

Supporters say the ordinance is a perfect way to prevent future dog attacks, while opponents say the proposal will not protect dog owners who live in rural areas and use their dogs for protection.

If there is a ban or ordinance passed I think it's only fair that the ordinance effects ALL breeds not just some. I have owned American Pit Bull Terriers in the past and couldn't have asked for a better breed, I currently own Doberman Pinschers which is another breed that gets a pretty bad repuation and thus far I have had good experiences with them like any other normal breed. I think it's a matter of owners being responsible, and if people are not willing to do this out of common sense then I think the laws should force them to be responsible.

Let them ban pits. I have the answer. A dog the police send in when there is a bad acting pit. A pit last an average of 1 minute with them. Presa Canario, also known as canaries. Breed for nothing but fighting. I don't care what a brain dead idiot says. I have as much right to own a dog as you have to own anything. I just hope a fool shoots my dog. I will show him just how it felt. I can go back to prison for my family and pets. Been there and am not scared. My yard is fenced. My dogs never run free. My pen for the pit has a top. Go tell your momma what to do I don't listen well.

I have a 2 acre yard here in Little Rock. My great grandchildren can't play more than 10 feet from the porch because of big dogs. Only one time has one come racing across the yard at car chasing speed and grabbed the back of a child, and that was 3 yrs. ago, that's all it took. We have a leash law. I say if they are capable of taking a person down, they need to be confined from the public. And about SMALL DOGS...they may be more likely to bite, but they can't take a person down, even a small child.

What makes people think a big dog will always be the ones to attack children ??? I have always owned big dogs; and if treated with kindness and respect; they have no reason to attack anyone. I have seen people come by and throw rocks and such at my dogs or do things to revoke them; and that is what makes a dog want to attack someone. My dogs are in a fence; and people still do things to try to make the dogs upset. I have even had to put out a warrent for one person for animal abuse; for what he did to my fenced up dogs !!! I think it is the people that needs to be fenced up----not the dogs !!

This needs to pass. The days of people respecting their neighbors are over.Plus buckshot is getting expensive. Most people get viscous dogs to make up for the size of their......Let your dog run loose around my property and it will be buzzard food.My child will not be another statistic and he will be able to play outside without fear.Whether you like it or not, dogs are an extension of your family and you are responsible for their actions.

If you let your pets run loose they will likely get either run-over, stolen, or worse they will attack an innocent child at which point the owner should be staked out over a fire-ant bed. Stupid laws for stupid people.
