Gov. Beebe Requests Federal Disaster Declaration for Storm, Flood Damage

The declaration would make Arkansas eligible to receive federal aid to help the State, cities and counties recover from infrastructure damage. State-and-federal damage assessments totaled nearly $10 million.
LITTLE ROCK - Governor Mike Beebe has sent a letter to President Barack Obama requesting a major disaster declaration for 12 Arkansas counties impacted by severe storms, tornadoes and floods beginning May 30.

Those counties include Cleburne, Cross, Garland, Independence, Montgomery, Poinsett, Polk, Scott, Searcy, Stone, Van Buren and Woodruff.

The declaration would make Arkansas eligible to receive federal aid to help the State, cities and counties recover from infrastructure damage, which state and federal assessments estimate at nearly $10 million.

This particular round of severe weather reportedly contributed to five deaths and 18 injuries.
