Health and Literacy Expo in NLR August 10

Second annual event for city's Junior League.
NORTH LITTLE ROCK, AR (News Release) - In response to the growing epidemic of childhood overweight/obesity and the critical need to close the achievement gap in early literacy, the Junior League of North Little Rock (JLNLR) will host their 2nd Annual Back to School Health & Literacy Expo, to be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on August 10th.

Last year hundreds attended and received free books and school supplies, along with food, fun, entertainment and activities for North Little Rock children and their families!

This family-friendly event will be held on the lawn of the historic E.O. Manees House at 216 West Fourth Street in downtown North Little Rock. JLNLR will accept donations of books and school supplies at our partnering location until August 8th:
  • Argenta Market, 521 Main Street, North Little Rock
Interested individuals may also call the JLNLR at (501) 372-1436 or email

This event also kicks off the JLNLR's Early Literacy Initiative, which supports the Arkansas Campaign for Grade-Level Reading. In addition to the Health and Literacy Expo, JLNLR will also provide books to selected child care facility and host monthly family literacy programs to reinforce school readiness skills.
