LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — Second District congressional candidate Herb Rule is challenging the circumstances under which he was stopped by Fayetteville police and cited for suspicion of driving while intoxicated, a charge he says he'll fight.
Rule, a Democrat, said through his campaign Friday that police did not have proper cause to stop him or to suspect that he had been drinking during the August traffic stop.
Rule has maintained that he is not guilty.
The campaign claims video of the stop shows that police made inconsistent statements and that field sobriety tests conducted on the 74-year-old Rule were "highly flawed and did not follow the established standards."
Fayetteville police didn't immediately return a call for comment.
