HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (AP) — Businesses in flood-prone downtown Hot Springs are piling up sandbags in anticipation of Isaac's heavy rains.

The tropical system reached Arkansas on Thursday morning, bringing heavy rain and gusts of more than 40 mph to the state's southeast.

The Hot Springs Public Works Department has made about 500 sandbags available for downtown merchants.

The Sentinel-Record reports that organizers have decided to go ahead with the Spa City Blues Festival that's scheduled for Labor Day weekend in the downtown area. The event will start as planned on Friday night.
