The Arkansas House of Representatives approved a bill allowing faculty and staff with conceal carry permits to bring guns onto college campuses Friday.

HB1243, allows for exceptions for public and private universities to "opt-out" by holding a vote once a year.

Bill sponsor Representative Charlie Collins (R-Fayetteville) says the legislation is needed to deter what he calls "the next crazed killer" targeting higher education institutions.

After passing 70-11, the bill advances to the Senate for consideration.
