LITTLE ROCK, AR – Arkansas highway officials have re-opened a major interstate that was closed because of a flash flood.

Interstate 30 on the southwestern side of Little Rock was swamped after thunderstorms hit the area early Monday. For about three hours, the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department suggested that motorists detour through Sheridan and Malvern. That
stretch of highway has some two-lane segments.

I-30 connects Memphis, Tenn., to Dallas and is a major route for cross-country truckers. It was closed about three hours after flood waters inundated the highway near its Alexander Road exit on the Pulaski-Saline county line.

Heavy rains fell in the area last week, leaving the ground saturated. More heavy rain is predicted Monday night and Tuesday.
