BATESVILLE, AR -- Forget the alarm clocks Monday morning. Chainsaws woke up residents, thanks to neighbors who waited for daylight to begin cleaning up.

"It was kind of a roar like. The trees here were whipping back and forth there in every direction," said Frank Gwin, a Batesville resident cleaning up limbs in his yard.

Frank Gwin says the whipping winds lasted about an hour, long enough for him to make a decision about this tree. A limb falls everytime the wind blows.

"I'm fixing to cut that tree down. It may take me a while but I'll get it down," Gwin said.

Across the street from Gwin, we found neighbors doing back-breaking work to clear their yard and driveway.

"Some of the logs are pretty hard to move right now but we're getting through it," said Robert Stephens.

The Stephens family rushed home after getting word a tree landed on the carport. It took them some time to get home.

"The storm was so bad last night you couldn't even see feet feet from your vehicle. We thought we were going to be in a tornado actually," Stephens said.

The National Weather Service said no tornado hit anywhere, just straight line winds up to 75 miles per hour caused the damage.
